Structural Analysis of Chain Stopper for FPSO Internal Turret System

Assisting in the development of a very large internal turret system for a FPSO, MOCS performed a structural analysis of the chain stopper system. In order to determine the structural integrity of the multi-component structure, multiple load cases were analysed by means of Finite Element Modelling. Next to linear stress analysis, non-linear analysis was used to determine the plastic deformation behaviour of certain components. Fatigue life was assessed according to the hot-spot stress method prescribed by DNV.
